If you are like me, toys have a tendency to try and takeover my house. So I am always on the lookout for adorable ways to organize and store toys that enhance the home décor. I recently purchased my daughter a bookshelf for her room and was looking for some storage baskets for the bottom shelves. I came across some wooden crates and thought, I have a little bit of pink wall paint, what if I did some broad brush strokes to cover the crates and give them a rustic look. I also wanted to get some of the aqua color in, and thought it would be adorable to do a monogrammed stencil of her initials on the front of the crates. This was super easy, fast, and an inexpensive way to really personalize the space with a rustic look. Here are the steps I went through. I am also posting a shopping link to the bookshelf but I did paint it an aqua color (it comes shipped in a teal color). I am also posting a link that you can use to order your own personalized stencil.
Step 1: Take a large paint brush with a small amount of paint and do broad brush strokes across the wooden crates to create a rustic look
Step 2: Once dry, tape monogram stencil in the location desired and put a small amount of paint on a sponge. Dab sponge on a piece of paper until the amount of paint on the sponge is just right and then dab on stencil opening. I practiced on a piece of paper first because you don’t want too much paint that it bleeds through and distorts the letters but you want enough paint that you can see the letters.
Love the how these storage boxes turned out! A great way to make the bookcases pop even more and personalize the space!
