Decorating a Small Entryway
They said it couldn’t be done, they said the entryway was to narrow and small for any furniture and décor. But I am determined and maybe a little stubborn if I am totally honest. There is only 5 ft between the stairs and the door and I had 5.5 inches to work with in the hallway entrance. Yep, you read that right 5.5 inches in a hallway that I was determined needed a console table. But as I have discovered in my other home improvement projects when there is a will there is a way, sometimes you have to just get a little creative. I have also learned that the more furniture you put into a small room, the larger it can look.
A narrow hallway
There was so much wasted beautiful wall space in this hallway and it was the first impression people got when they walked into our home that I could not bear not to decorate this area. I knew that putting decorations on the wall itself wasn’t going to cut it; I needed a piece of furniture to anchor the wall. The problem was we were talking about 5.5 inches of space for a piece of furniture otherwise it would crowd the hallway too much. I figured the best option would be a console table, but as you can guess you cannot find a console table that is 5.5 inches wide. That is when I thought about checking Etsy and I found SawDustCollection who could make me an unfinished console table that was 6.5 inches deep and only $115.00 dollars! This vendor was super flexible about the size (this was a special order so if you need it this narrow like I did, make sure to talk to them in advance). Love how this table turned out and how it really anchors the space. It is also still wide enough that I can put books, frames, pots, and plants on it.
A small entrance
In addition to a narrow hallway entrance, I had a very small entrance to contend with. I tried to highlight and utilize both of the walls on either side of the doorway for useful décor. I added a coat hanger which is super handy when you have a party and it can be a pain both for the guests and host to hang everyone’s jackets up in a hallway closet. I also added a mirror which makes the space look larger. I am still thinking about adding a small bench under the coat hanger, will keep you posted!
