We have a rather narrow and small dining room like a lot of people I know. We wanted a large and long table to accommodate all our family for the holidays but the room looked pretty sparse with only the table and chairs filling the space. The room needed another piece of furniture to anchor it. I also wanted a piece of furniture that could store and display my china and crystal as it does not get used that much. I am not one of those use your china all the time people (although I wish I could be!). I am more like Monica from that Friends episode telling people to cut softer on their plates when they are eating! I do like to see my china and crystal however and enjoy it that way!
At the end of the table in the corner I had about 16 inches of depth and 40 inches of width to work with for a piece of furniture so that people could still move comfortably around the dining room. As you can imagine, most china cabinets are not that narrow, but when there is a will there is a way. I found this adorable cabinet that fits just right in this space and also still manages to fit all my china and crystal. Love the glass so you can see the china and crystal as well.
Space for Decor
Another feature of the cabinet that I liked, was that it was only 36 inches tall which gave me space to decorate! I knew that I wanted some shelving to fully utilize the wall space and found these beautiful ones on Etsy (shopping link below). I also was able to hide the thermostat with a tall candle and personalize the space with some family photos.
Decorating small spaces is so much fun because it forces you to be more creative and more efficient than you would have to be if you had a larger space. The result is a well layered, cozy, beautiful space!
