Our living room has been waiting for a piano. This summer we got the long awaited piano from one of our neighbors that no longer needed it. I love to hear my daughters playing music on it and I will even sit down to play some of my daughters easier music with my rusty piano skills from time to time. I have been going back and forth about whether to paint the piano but in the end decided to keep it’s natural wood color and decorate the living room with a rustic glamorous vibe. I tried to incorporate gold and faux sheepskin elements for a glamorous feel and raw wood for a rustic feel. Affiliate links:
The piano bench
To help soften and break up all the traditional wood of the piano I decided to add a faux white sheepskin rug to the top of the bench. I love how this gives the old traditional piano a fresh and glamorous look. I folded the rug to make it fit the piano bench exactly and the kids love how soft it is!
The living room is kind of dark and narrow. By adding a mirror behind the piano the room instantly appeared larger and brighter. I also feel like a mirror behind a piano just looks like a natural combination and ties the whole room together. I went with a mirror that had a rustic frame to give the room a rustic element.
I have been wanting a lamp with a clear glass base and felt like this was the perfect application to use one! I feel like this lamp could look fantastic in both a glamorous room or a rustic room and really tied both styles together. Functionally this room is so dark we needed a lamp and by putting it in front of the mirror it made the whole room a lot lighter. This lamp is the perfect size for on top of a piano, about 20 inches high.
The piano decor
I love the look of photo frames on top of a piano and knew I wanted to incorporate that into the decor. I have a larger photo frame made out of raw wood to give a rustic feel and then a medium sized gold frame, and a small gold frame and candle to give a more glamorous feel. I used my white cake plate to create some varied height interest and to help the small frame and candle stand out. I also used some garland around the top of the cake plate to add an earthy feel. If you haven’t read my earlier post on how I love to use cake plates in my decor, check it out here. I also wanted to add some additional coziness to the piano so I added a lantern and some faux flame less candles.
The piano is one of my favorite pieces in my home. I cannot wait to have the candles glowing Christmas Eve night this year and singing carols together around the piano with eggnog and cookies!
