The first frosts have killed off my late blooming summer annuals in my window boxes and with winter right around the corner I decided to forgo planting mums and just do some low maintenance tweaks to get the window boxes ready for my winter display.
Right now is a great time to go and add branches to your window boxes and planters that you want to decorate later for winter because the soil is not yet frozen. I remember last December when I was trying to get branches to stick into my window boxes for my winter display I couldn’t because the soil was frozen. Take advantage of the loose soil now to create a canvas that it ready to go for your winter decor. Also with everyone cutting back their bushes for brush pickups it shouldn’t be difficult to find some free and beautiful branches to use!
I added a little eucalyptus intermixed with the branches, I have never used it outside before so I am not sure how it will hold up but it looks beautiful right now!
Added some inexpensive small pumpkins to add some color and fall interest!
I am so in love with Spanish Moss, it makes any floral design look more “finished”. Added some around the base of the branches to add a little more earthy element to the look.
Some inexpensive tweaks to get your planters ready for winter and make them beautiful in the process!
