The living room refresh is finally completed and I love how this room that was lacking purpose and design has come to life! This room is now one of my favorites in the whole house. It is so cozy and warm! I wanted an inviting yet elegant room that had a glamorous yet rustic vibe to it and tried to incorporate natural wood, gold, and faux sheepskin elements to achieve this look. Here are the steps that I took to breathe new life into this space. Lighting & a Large Mirror to brighten the room
The living room is kind of dark and narrow. By adding a mirror behind the piano the room instantly appeared larger and brighter. I also feel like a mirror behind a piano just looks like a natural combination and ties the whole room together. I went with a mirror that had a rustic frame to give the room a rustic element. I also added a lamp with a clear glass base to the top of the piano, another table top lamp to the end table, and a standing lamp next to the sofa.
Styling the Piano
To help soften and break up all the traditional wood of the piano I decided to add a faux white sheepskin rug to the top of the bench. I love how this gives the old traditional piano a fresh and glamorous look. I love the look of photo frames on top of a piano and knew I wanted to incorporate that into the decor. I have a larger photo frame made out of raw wood to give a rustic feel and then a medium sized gold frame, and a small gold frame and candle to give a more glamorous feel. I used my white cake plate to create some varied height interest and to help the small frame and candle stand out. I also used some garland around the top of the cake plate to add an earthy feel. If you haven’t read my earlier post on how I love to use cake plates in my decor, check it out here. I also wanted to add some additional coziness to the piano so I added a lantern and some faux flame less candles. Adding the Wall Shelf and Pictures Underneath
I love having this massive wall shelf because it creates such a statement in the room and creates a canvas for that entire wall. We have had this shelf in our living room for many years but I did find a similar large wall shelf at a very reasonable price! I added some glass candle holders, rustic wood candle holders, and flameless candles that work with a remote to create a cozy grownup retreat that sets the tone for the space. In the center of the shelf I added a picture of my daughter in a black and white matted frame that establishes the centerpiece art. I added an earthy element to the shelf by adding two toparies on either side of the shelf completing the look. To add a seasonal element in I added some neutral felt pumpkins onto each side of the shelf to update the decor for fall. I think these neutral fabric pumpkins and white chenille pumpkins would also look adorable on this shelf! I decided to add three black & white matted frames below the shelf to complete the wall art with pictures that I took that are special to our family. I took a picture of the church my husband and I were married in, where my husband proposed, and a beautiful field I have always admired by our home. Pillows to enhance the couch
Cozy Ottoman space
There is nothing cozier than an ottoman with a fluffy blanket and a tray with a candle. It immediately makes me want to curl up with a good book and cup of tea.
You can create this look at home with an adorable woven tray and chunky knit blanket. Just add a pumpkin cheesecake candle, a grapevine pumpkin that lights up, and a white cable knit pumpkin and the look is complete.
