I like a fabric that has some texture to it for curtains! For a more formal room such as a master suite or living room I generally select a heavier fabric with maybe some blackout panels behind it. For a more playful room such as kids room or playroom I would generally select a lighter fabric. I also think about how much light a room has coming into it, and select lighter fabrics for darker rooms. Many of my rooms have linen or faux linen fabrics. The fabric of the curtains is key in making sure they look well made and tailored.
Rod Pocket versus Grommet
Most of my rooms have rod pockets because I feel like it has a more finished look to it however it is really hard to move the curtains along the rod pocket so if you need curtains that can open and close with ease grommet may be a better option.
I rarely use my curtains as statement pieces and therefore I tend to gravitate towards more neutral colors and patterns. Most of the curtains in my home are gray, beige, or white. I did use aqua curtains in the family room because the room is mostly neutral and it needed a splash of color.
I have 9 ft ceilings so I generally select curtains that are at least 96″ tall and I generally select panel curtains because of their classic look. I also try to find curtains that are under $35 dollars! Here are some shopping options!
If you are looking for a more formal room the Ophelia Sheer Curtains or the Linen Look Curtains would be a good option. For a room that maybe needs a little more light, the Embroidered Andrea Curtains, Faux Linen Embroidered Curtains, or Mercury Embroidered Curtains might be good options!
Curtains can make a room look finished and set the tone for the feel of the room. There are so many inexpensive options out there, making curtains a great economical buy that can drastically change a room!
