Styling bookcases can be a difficult and overwhelming task! Today we are going to go step by step through creating a well styled bookshelf AND provide shopping links to achieve the look. We are here to take the guesswork out of the process. The links in this post contain affiliate links and I will receive a small commission at no cost to you if you make a purchase after clicking on my link.
Step 1: The Books
The books are the foundation of the bookshelf! If you are a big reader and already have a ton of books to use, perfect! If not, or you want to go with a color scheme of vintage books I have your covered! If you don’t want to be scouring the local vintage book store, I have blocks of vintage books for every color scheme. They are very reasonably priced! You can either use the accent color to make the shelves pop, or use the main color of the room! There is a cream or brown/orange option for a neutral room as well as a green, rose/coral, blue, and purple option!
Step 2: Framed Print, Art, or Photos
By adding in some framed prints, art, or photos you add some texture and visual interest to the shelves. It is necessary to break up the books on the shelves . You can create a gap between books to place a larger frame or you can place a smaller frame in front of the books so the top of the books shows through. I have some great framed options all under $30 dollars! Love the White Flower Wall Art with Frame, Flowering Branch Wall Art with Frame, Sketched Barn Wall Art with Frame, and Framed Wall Art Forest options!
Step 3: Add some greenery
I try to include a faux, dried, or real greenery accent for each shelf of a bookcase. Even better would be to include a mixture of all these different types. I would place them next to the framed art piece or to the side of a bookshelf of just books to again visually break up the monotony of all the books. Adding greenery to a shelf is like adding life to it! Some many great options for you including: a Wooden Tray and Buckets with Greenery, Galvanized Potted Mini Succulent Arrangement, Simple Potted Greenery, Metal Bucket with Greenery, and Cotton Stems & Lambs arrangement.
Step 4: Add some lighting
To add a little coziness and life to the bookshelf I try to include some type of lighting element on at least every other bookshelf. This could be a lantern or a candle. I would try to group this lighting element with either a greenery element or framed art element. Love these lighting options I found for you : a Personalized Lantern, Lodge Wooden Lantern, Pure organic beeswax candle in an amber glass jar, Lavender Amber Candle, and Lavender Aromatherapy Candle.
Step 5: Storage for the bottom shelf
Love the look and functionality of having storage on the bottom shelf of the bookcase. Perfect place for storing kids toys, blankets, or extra toss pillows! If you are storing blankets or throw pillows a wire basket can be an excellent option. If you need to hide toys a leather or woven basket can add some texture to the shelves while hiding the contents! Have some great options that are super inexpensive! Love this Wire Black Bin, Tan Leather Bin, and Wicker Bin Option!
I hope this article gives you the confidence to style those bookshelves that had previously been intimidating. You now have all the tools and shopping links to make it happen! Please send me your pictures, would love to see the finished product!
