I had been putting it off, but every month that I wrote the huge cable bill I was kicking myself saying this was the month that I needed to do my research and kick cable to the curb! My kids were watching prime and Netflix more than cable so it just didn’t make since to keep it anymore! I finally did it and you can too! I am going to walk you through how I did it and how much I am saving! Previously we were paying approximately $99/month with AT&T for cable, in talking to AT &T it made more since to drop down to basic cable access with one box otherwise we would have lost our unrestricted internet bandwidth. This one box allows us to get regular network channels that you could get with an antenna for one tv to allow us to still have unrestricted internet access. As a bonus my husband can watch sporting events like the superbowl that are on these channels too which dropped our bill down to approximately $49/month savings us about $600/year.
We purchased these Sony 3D Streaming Blu-Ray Disc Players for each of our tv’s so that we can stream Netflix and Amazon prime to the television. Although these are slightly expensive (about $100/player) we are still saving by dropping cable. A basic Netflix package costs about $8.99/month and a Prime membership is about $12.99/month (to get videos and free two day shipping) coming to about $22/month. Still cheaper than cable! There is a deal running right now that you can try Amazon Prime free for 30 days. Check it out here.
Have we noticed a difference since stopping cable? Nope! I found that we were mostly watching kids programming on cable and my kids actually like the kids movies and shows on Prime & Netflix better. Hope this helps lay things out. I know that it is stressful and confusing but I am glad we ended up kicking cable to the curb!
