Love to create container gardens for the front porch! Today I was updating the planters from Spring to Summer and thought I would put together a couple of the steps I go through in designing and implementing my container gardens. I have also created a video of these steps you can access here.
Select Interesting Color Combinations
I always like to select unexpected color combinations that you typically wouldn’t put together but when you see them it makes sense. For this planter I selected a tangerine, purple, and pink combination that creates a cheery fun vibe that I think screams Summer!
When Selecting Plants Choose Trailers, Fillers, and WOW Plants with Height
I typically pick a WOW plant with height first and work the rest of the plants around that. The WOW plant should draw a person to the arrangement because it is unusual or beautiful. If your WOW plant does not have height, no problem just add some sticks for texture and height. This year I selected these tangerine gerber daisies because of their unexpected color. You want to plant your WOW plant in the center of the planter
You are also going to pick one or two trailers that you will plant in the very front of the container. They eventually will drape beautifully down the front of the planter. I love to use sweet potato vine!
Lastly you will fill in the rest of the pot with your fillers which will make the container look full and colorful.
Now it is just time to water and wait for all the plants to fill in and create a beautiful picture. Gardening is a little bit like painting but instead of using paints you use flowers. Happy Gardening!!!
